Union Chief Justice attends the 2nd China-ASEAN Justice Forum

Nay Pyi Taw, June 13

UNION CHIEF JUSTICE U Htun Htun Oo attended the 2nd China-ASEAN Justice Forum held in Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China on 7 and 8 June 2017.

Present at the Forum were the Chief Justices, Presidents, Deputy Chief Justices and Justices and their delegate of the Supreme People's Court and the High People's Court of the People's Republic of China, ASEAN and South Asian countries.

      

Union Chief Justice U Htun Htun Oo made his opening remarks on behalf of the ASEAN countries at the opening ceremony of the Forum. At the Forum, the participants discussed on Judicial Cooperation in Internet, Maritime Silk Road and Cross-Border Disputes Resolution and its related sub-topics and unanimously announced the Nanning Statement.

     

The Union Chief Justice had a bilateral meeting with the President of the Supreme People's Court of the People's Republic of China, Chief Justice H.E. Mr ZHOU Qiang for strengthening judicial cooperation between the two countries.

      

At the  Nanning Statement, it consists of, between the Supreme People's Court of China and Supreme Courts of participating countries, pushing forward with more personnel and information exchanges, judicial cooperation, expanding the applicability of information technology services to make more transparent and efficient work of courts, engaging in comparative study on their respective commercial laws, considering the adoption of alternative dispute resolution mechanism, considering facilitating the appropriate mutual recognition and enforcement of civil and commercial judgments among different jurisdiction,  and supporting of ASEAN countries to the China-ASEAN Judicial Training Base and Information Center founded by the Supreme People's Court of China.
