Judicial Colloquium on Commercial and Corporate Law

Nay Pyi Taw, 26th August 2017

 Judicial Colloquium on Commercial and Corporate Law was held by the Supreme Court of the Union at Kempinski Hotel, Nay Pyi Taw from 26 to 28 August 2017 in collaboration with Asia Development Bank (ADB) and the University of NSW (UNSW).


 It was supported by ADB under its Technical Assistance (TA – 9026 MYA: Strengthening Law, Regulation and the Legal Profession for a Better Investment Climate) to the Supreme Court of the Union and aims at providing Myanmar Judges and Judicial Officers with skills to support them in handling and adjudicating commercial cases.


 The format of Judicial Colloquium was dialogue-focused and the speakers were from the Federal Court of Australia, the Singapore High Court and the Singapore International Commercial Court. The participants discussed and shared experiences on General issues in commercial disputes, Regional approaches to commercial dispute resolution, Interpreting new laws and managing new disputes, Strategies and structures for managing commercial disputes, and Recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments and arbitral awards.


 It was attended altogether 25 Myanmar Judges and Judicial Officers from the Office of the Supreme Court of the Union, the Office of the Union Judiciary Supervision, the High Courts and the District Courts.
