UNION CHIEF JUSTICE U Htun Htun Oo attended the fifth Council of ASEAN Chief Justices’ (CACJ) Meeting held in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam on 24 March 2017.
Present at the meeting were the Chief Justices and their delegate in ASEAN, and unanimously announced the “Bandar Seri Begawan Declaration”. The declaration agreed to form a Study Group for upcoming process and to establish the Secretariat of CACJ.
At the meeting, the Chief Justices discussed on implementing the Internet Portal of ASEAN Judiciaries, cooperating the training for judges and judicial officers, studying the Court Technology and Case Management, convening the First ASEAN Family Judges Forum, finding a way for Facilitating the Service of Civil Process and so on.
The ASEAN Chief Justices’ Meeting has been held annually since 2013 as the meeting among ASEAN judiciaries and the Meeting was renamed as the Council of ASEAN Chief Justices (CACJ) and has been listed in Part 1 of Annex 2 of the ASEAN Charter as an entity associated with ASEAN. The Supreme Court of the Union will be engaging in the judicial cooperation with the objective of CACJ.
